CoRe Takes SP10 Championship With A Dramatic SP3T Finale!
The final round of the Digital Nürburgring Langstrecken Series took place last Tuesday in October for its’ ending race around the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife. While CoRe’s GT4 squad Carl Jansson and Sindre Setsaas already secured the SP10 category championship a race before, the TCR team of Marius Golombeck and Kimmo Suominen gave it all to finish ahead SimRC to get a double champ’ victory for CoRe.
Starting from pole position in the SP10 GT4 field, Carl and Sindre did not hesitate to show their solid performance once again in their Cayman and pulled off quickly from the rest of the field. The CoRe TCR machine took off the grid from second position immediately initiating the fight against championship contender SimRC. An exciting chase through the green hell for another breathtaking finale had begun.
With the race distance of three hours down the clock, the championship in the SP3T class had to be decided in an intense last lap night fight between Kimmo Suominen and Felix Luding. Exiting the Pflanzgarten 2 part at the Nordschleife, leader Luding crashed into a standing M4 entry at the following Bellof-S section. Avoiding the armco after escaping a fierce accident in front, Kimmo was able to regain control leaving a heartbroken & damaged SimRC TCR car behind. Crossing the line in first position afterwards, while the GT4 squad took the win in the SP10 category, the team could not really believe what had happened in the very last seconds of a nine-race season.
A tough statement from SimRC followed after the podium : “It was not the final we were looking for. A sleeping BMW GT4 crept through the Eifel without having full control of the vehicle. The result – he put @FelixLuding into the wall and stole the thrilling SP3T final with @CoReSimRacing for the class championship.” Sindre rounded it up, too : “Solid end to the Digital Nürburgring Endurance Series powered by VCO!
