Features of the Blendtec Designer 725

The 725 has a 1725 watt motor (that’s very, very powerful in blender terms), and a touchscreen that you can use to get feedback, see how the blender has been used, choose from six different modes, adjust to 100 different manual speeds, and a lot more.

  • Loyalty rewards program
  • Powerful motor
  • Wildside jar for blending dough and other tricky substances

Cons

  • Techy interface isn’t for everyone
  • High price tag

The touchscreen can do a little of everything.

C-Net

C-Net did note that the Blendtec motor was extremely powerful and that the controls wear easier to use than older models. However, the review gave the blender a failing score because it tore apart the rubber seal at the bottom of the jar when used, essentially ruining its own mechanism. Blendtec responded to this and said they were looking into the issue, but the whole thing’s kind of a mess.

“Unfortunately, the Blendtec 725 proved too powerful for its own good. Before we could complete our tests, it had shredded the rubber gasket at the base of the jar, rendering the thing unusable. Repeated tests with additional units produced the same damning result, with shredded rubber even ending up mixed in with our ingredients. That’s an unacceptable design flaw, and a complete deal breaker for anyone looking to spend big on blending.”

Good Housekeeping

Good Housekeeping has no problems with the Blendtec model, and so gave it one of the highest blender scores on its list, praisng the extra powerful motor and the easy-to-clean touch buttons, plus the high tech features that include choosing 100 manual speeds – and even a loyalty program that rewards long-term users with coupons and other gifts.

“You can choose from six pre-programmed settings or up to 100 manual speeds, providing ultimate control and precision when blending. If that’s not enough, Blendtec SmartBlend technology senses problems that arise while blending, such as air pockets or overheating, and suggests solutions. Finally, it rewards you for reaching blending “milestones” by offering coupon codes for recipe books, gift cards, and more (redeemable online).”

Amazon Users

Amazon users were generally full of praise for the blender, which they found to be a safe and highly effective addition to their kitchens that could handle pretty much any blending project. The high-tech touchscreen features were hit or miss for some, however, with some features that could have been better designed.

“We went back and forth, should we get a Blendtec or a VitaMix. Our friends have a VitaMix and we’ve been able to use them on several occasions. We have some young children that LOVE making smoothies on a daily basis and the automation of the Blendtec with the pre-programmed buttons sold us. Also the fact that the Blendtec has dull bladed instead of sharp really made it appealing so our kids could clean up after themselves and not worry about them cutting themselves on sharp blades. Another attractive feature is the WildSide jar, this thing is amazing, we’ve never had any problems getting things blended. Frozen fruit, fresh veggies, whole apples, carrots, kale, etc. This things blends it all. We’ve only had this for about a month and we’re already at 200 blends (it keeps track).”

Bottom Line

This blender has been known to fail catastrophically (which we’ve never seen in any of our blend reviews), but those failure rates appear to be very low, and otherwise the model is one of the best home blenders around.
